The Western Widow Contemplates Weeds

The western widow has options for weeds.

She can weave a mourning coat

from pigweed, ragweed, stinkweed,

even locoweed.  Wanting a skirt,

she might decide on goatgrass,

lovegrass, even cheatgrass.

Accessories may include maiden’s tears,

also beggar ticks and devil’s guts.

She’s known to top her jaunty ensemble

with a tumbleweed hat.

Her signature scent, a weedy bonus--

stand close to catch a whiff of death camas.
