A big white dog showed up

A big white dog showed up in Linda’s yard.

She thinks he was abandoned  by herders

who summer their flocks up Snow Canyon.

“Great Pyrenees,” she said. “Lame though.

Probably the reason  they left him behind.”

“That’s something!” I told her on the phone.

“They’re guardians.  Protect the flock,”

I was thinking how she acts tough but isn’t.

“I know that!” she interrupted,  “And don’t

give me any spirit dog woo woo shit.”

“I won’t!” I said. “But it’s not every day

a Great Pyrenees shows up in a person’s yard.”

She was quiet. She knows I know some things.

For my friend’s sake,  I hope to God

that big white dog sticks around.
